Iraq

The loss of family and displacement of persons internally and externally continues to plague Iraq. Alalusi Foundation has assisted the Iraqi people since 2003.

Iraq Orphan Project

Our signature program, the Iraq Orphans Project (IOP) works within – not against – cultural and religious norms for a working solution to one of Iraq’s most intractable problems – an estimated 2.5 to 5 million orphans in 2008. Instead of adoptions or orphanages – frowned-upon last resorts – the Foundation supports families who have taken on the responsibility of caring for the children of deceased loved ones. Food, medicine, and material support reach the families through a network of on-the-ground distribution and validation partners, including three of the oldest and most respected charitable organizations in Iraq. Through them and others, we are supporting orphans with one-year scholarships in locations from Mosul to Basrah, the Orphans’ Khayrat al-Mosul Village, the Dar Al Amin Iraqi Safe House for Orphans in Sadr City, and individual families of widows and orphaned girls.

This project started in late 2009 and is still ongoing. We reach out to the extended families where orphans had refuge to directly support them.

If you want to sponsor an orphaned child, please contact us via this email address.

Besides our direct sponsorships to individual orphans, since 2014 we have been assisting the Dar Al Amin Safe House for Orphans, run by M. Husham Adhabe in Sadir City, Baghdad, with stipends for staff and other economic support. Dar Al Amin cards for around 70 orphans, using art-based therapy to help traumatized children cope with the chaos around them.

“We are treating the children by developing their talents through art, music, and painting. The program proved to be very successful, and talented children have received 27 international awards and dozens of local prizes and certificates of excellence in acting, fine arts, sports, and singing.”

Your donation to support an orphan would be greatly appreciated! Only $500 can provide a year of basic support for one child.

As of September 2017, this project has provided sponsorships for 4,495 orphans.

Displaced Persons Inside Iraq

Alalusi Foundation supports displaced Iraqis of Anbar, Salhudin, and Mosul. Whenever waves of displaced people from Ramadi, Faluja, Baiji, and other localities are in need, we offer support directly to the displaced families. Often, we focus on supporting those who have special needs for medication or other medical attention. In crisis situations and conditions of triage, where people are forced to wait for even basic necessities like food and water, case of special needs get shoved aside.

Can you assist us in aiding these people?
